Insert Image Into TextEdit
Make sure, use a rich text document if you like to insert an image into TextEdit. However, if you’re using plain text, tap Format > Make Rich Text from the menu bar.
You can then insert an image in different ways:
Right-tap in the body of the document. Now choose Import Image from the shortcut menu, and select your image.
Click Edit > Attach Files and then browse your image.
Now drag an image from its current location into the TextEdit document.

Now you have your image in your TextEdit document, annotating it is quite easy.
Choose the image in your document and you’ll then view an arrow located on the top right of it. However, select Markup (or another image editing tool if you want to).
However, your image opens in the Markup window where you can edit and annotate it as you please.
