Steps To Use Orbot:
Install and download Orbot from Google Play.
Then Open Orbot.
Follow the on-screen steps.
- A welcome screen appears, tap the arrow under the right.
- When moving to the last page, hit on Done.
- You will now be welcomed by the app’s main page.
Click on the massive grayed-out Onion icon in the middle that reads Start.
- This will begin the proxy process in Orbot using the app’s default settings.
- Clicking on the icon will enable it into yellow, which highlights that Orbot is processing your connection with a proxy.
- Then the icon changes into green when Orbot has successfully connected to a proxy server.
Now you are ready to use Orbot. Well, Orbot will be visible as a widget in the notification or alerts drawer.
Working Of Orbot On Samsung Galaxy devices
On Galaxy devices, an app founds that listens to the same network port as Orbot needs. If you want to ignore that from happening then follow the article mentioned below:
Install and download Netstat Plus from Google Play.
Head over to the Netstat Plus.
Move to the Listen tab at the top.
View for the app that uses the network port 9050.
- Remember the name of the app.
Now search the listening app on your mobile phone and force stop it. How to do that:
- Head over to the Settings.
- Move down to choose Applications.
- Click on the app that was listening on the network port 9050.
- Press Force Stop.
- Click on Disable.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue, you can then modify the Tor SOCKS network to 9051.
- Head over to the Orbot app.
- Tap on the 3-dot menu at the top right.
- Click Settings.
- At the bottom of the Debug section, modify Tor SOCKS to 9051 or AUTO.
That’s all, Orbot should now work on your Samsung Galaxy device.
Switch on Orbot’s VPN Mode
While switching on Orbot in its default setting enables you to browse the web secretly. However, it’s VPN Mode ensures the proxy technique works on all the apps installed on your mobile. Also, Orbot’s VPN Mode uses a mobile VPN tool, and besides an actual VPN service, it uses TOR as a VPN. This enables any app on your mobile to use Orbot’s proxy service.
Head over to the Orbot app.
Click on the onion icon in the middle. Wait until the connection is maintained and the icon turns green.
Click on the toggle located next to the VPN mode section under the onion icon.
Orbot’s VPN Mode will now enable and you can then use the proxy server on all the apps installed on your mobile.
Choose individual apps to use Orbot’s VPN Mode
While switching or moving to Orbot’s VPN Mode via the main screen will turn on the proxy server for the whole device. Also, you can manually choose which of the apps on your mobile can use the feature. Choosing the VPN mode for individual apps will ensure that Orbot connects to a proxy server only while using the choose apps.
Head over to the Orbot app.
Click on the onion icon in the middle. Wait for a while until the connection is built and the icon changes into the green.
Tap on the setting icon under the Tor-enabled apps section.
- Orbot will now display you a list of apps that needs a connection to the internet.
Choose the apps that you want to work with Orbot’s VPN Mode.
Move back to the earlier screen.
Click on the toggle located next to the VPN mode section.
Orbot’s VPN functionality also applied to the chosen apps on your mobile device. Make sure that switching on the VPN mode will only turn on VPN for these apps and not all of them. To turn off this, you will have to unmark the apps that you chose in the method above.
Modify your location on Orbot
Like other VPN apps, Orbot offers a method to modify your location and access geographically restricted content on some services.
Head over to the Orbot app.
Click on the drop-down menu i.e Global (Auto).
Choose your required region from the choices listed in the drop-down menu.
Click on the onion icon in the middle. Wait a while until the connection is maintained and the icon changes into the green.
You can also turn on the required region on all apps or chosen apps by clicking the toggle located next to the VPN mode section.
