Send Money on Whatsapp Pay: Officially WhatsApp Pay is launching this year. But in the meantime, you can make payments on the messaging platform provided you’re in India. However, WhatsApp is using the country’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) framework just to facilitate money transfer. Here’s how to start with payments on WhatsApp.
How to Set Up Payments on WhatsApp for Android
Let’s get started with payments on WhatsApp. Initially, you’ll have to link your bank account to the service. However, UPI works primarily with your phone number, and the service works with all major banks in India. The amazing part is that if you don’t have a UPI account set up with your bank, you will also be able to use the payment option as WhatsApp will create a UPI ID for you. Here’s what you need to know:
Firstly, open WhatsApp from the app drawer or home screen.
Choose the action overflow menu (three vertical dots on the top right corner).
Also, select Add new payment method.
Pick Accept and continue to get started.
Select your bank from the list. However, this should ideally be your primary UPI account.
Now you’ll need to verify your phone number. But remember that the WhatsApp number you’re using is the same one registered with your bank account. Enter/Hit Verify via SMS to authenticate your bank account.
Click Allow to enable WhatsApp verify that the SIM card is the one registered with your account.
Click Allow again for WhatsApp to send texts to authenticate your account.
Now WhatsApp will verify with your bank and pull up all accounts registered with your number. Also, choose the one you’d like to use to end setting up payments.
Tap Done to end setting up WhatsApp Pay.
You should now view the payment method listed on the payments page.
