Do you want to Remap iPad Keyboard Modifier Keys? Do you want the Caps Lock key on your physical iPad keyboard to imagine the function of the Escape key? What about rebinding the Globe key to a distinct function? Using iPadOS 13.4 and iOS, you can do this to modify the behavior of some hardware modifier keys on physical keyboards. Follow our guide we’ll discuss how to remap your iPad keyboard modifier keys.

About the iPad keyboard modifier keys

iPad keyboard case also uses a keyboard layout that’s various from what you’re normal too.

That can issue experienced typists.

For example, you may also find yourself quickly pressing that Globe key rather than the Control key. Or, you may like to find a good use for the Caps Lock key if you don’t use UPPERCASE much. If you want to do work, you just manually adjust the behavior of a particular modifier key on your physical iPad keyboard. So that it performs a task other than the default one.

To change modifier keys on physical keyboards is supported on the iPod touch and iPhone models using the iOS 13.4 software or later, also on iPads using iPadOS 13.4+.

Follow our easy guide to learn how to remap your iPad keyboard modifier keys.

How to remap iPad keyboard modifier keys

Follow these easy steps carefully to remap the iPad keyboard modifier keys:

Step 1:

Firstly, open the Settings app on your device using iOS or iPadOS 13.4 or later.

Step 2:

Select General from the main list.

Step 3:

Click Keyboard.

Step 4:

Select the option Hardware Keyboard. Also, don’t view the option! Check your external keyboard is attached to your iPad.

Step 5:

Now click Modifier Keys.

Step 6:

Select any listed modifier key to modify its behavior.

You can also modify the behavior of the following hardware modifier keys on external keyboards:

  • Caps Lock (⇪)
  • Control (⌃)
  • Option (⌥)
  • Command (⌘)
  • Globe
Step 7:

Now select a new action from the list that you like your selected modifier key to perform when hit or choose No Action, that does just that.

Not just this but you can also remap modifier keys to the following actions:

  • Caps Lock (⇪)
  • Control (⌃)
  • Option (⌥)
  • Command (⌘)
  • Escape (⎋)
  • Globe

To move back the keys to their original settings, press the option Restore Defaults.

Unfortunately, the Function key action (fn) can’t an option here.

I said “unfortunately” due to it become awesome if I could modify the commonly used Globe key to a Function key such as Exposé without the emoji screen coming up.

Other iPad keyboard improvements

Using iOS and iPadOS 13.4, your iOS devices take advantage of other improvements in terms of keyboard features, specs, and access. Certainly, developers monitor/analyze physical keyboard for key up and down events. Also, they are making it possible for all kinds of keyboard control capabilities that just can’t possible before.

For example, some apps like Photos now offer random shortcuts like Control (⌃) + 1 whereas earlier all keyboard shortcuts in iOS apps need to hold down the Command (⌘) key.

And with Full Keyboard Access, you can fully navigate an iPad via a physical keyboard.

Also, it offers amazing touch-free control, end with using the Tab key to navigate between various fields in any app, shortcuts for the Control Center and Notification much more.
