How To Automatically Disable MacBook Backlit Keyboard When Inactive

Do you want to automatically disable Macbook backlit keyboard? A dreadful feature on any laptop is a backlit keyboard. This keyboard can help you to work in dim-light environments. But if you forget to disable the light when you walk away, and the break of a 5-minute break changes into an hour, then you’re wasting your energy, time, and battery on your PC.

While a backlit keyboard may not consume much battery, if you aren’t at your computer and it’s not plugged in, why waste even a little?

Automatically turn off or disable your backlit keyboard

It just takes only a few seconds to make this modification or adjustment. So make sure it likely worth your time. Head over to your System Preferences using the icon in your Dock or by tapping Apple icon > System Preferences in the menu bar.

Step 1:

Initially select Keyboard.

Once done now view the box for Disable or Turn keyboard backlight off after [time] of inactivity.

Choose a time from the drop-down box for just 5 seconds up to 5 minutes.

It’s quite simple and easy. And once you move back to your MacBook and hit a key, your keyboard will again light back up.

You’ll also notice that another setting just right above the inactivity one to Adjust keyboard brightness in low light. Well, it’s just a quite handy setting to turn on as your keyboard light will low based on your environment.

While using the keyboard backlist, you can manually set the brightness using the keyboard shortcut Fn + F5 and Fn + F6 keys.
