Before you are going to change a Word document to Google Docs, you want to upload the file to Google’s servers using Google Drive. Just follows the steps given below to get began:

Step 1:

Move to drive.google.com on your web browser then sign in with your Google account. Whenever you enter in Google Drive home page, tap on “New” located in the left pane.

Step 2:

Then, select “File upload” from the dropdown menu and look for the word document on your PC to upload it.

Step 3:

Now, the file that you uploaded will display up in Google Drive. Right-tap on the document, tap on “Open with” in the dropdown menu, and select “Google Docs”.

Step 4:

The Word document will open in Google Docs without any issue, but the file format will be highlighted right next to the file name. If you want to convert it, tap on “File” from the menu bar. Then select “Save as Google Docs” from the dropdown menu.

Step 5:

That’s all. You’ve successfully saved the document as Google Docs. You can’t view the .docx format located next to the filename. You can also download this Google Docs file to your PC any time after going to File -> Download and selecting any of the compatible formats.

There you go. Now you must know how easy it is to change a Word document to Google Docs.

You can also follow the steps mentioned-above to change a Word document on any device that has a web browser. Therefore, it can’t matter after you’re using a Mac, Windows PC, or Linux machine. You can also try this on an iPad too, as iPadOS features a desktop-class web browser.

As you can view here, you don’t want to convert it to Google Docs just to continue working on the Word document when the file format is natively compatible. Once you’ve completed working on the document, you can install it as a .docx file and share it with your friends who use Microsoft Word for their word processing needs.

If one of your friend using a Mac, you might receive a Pages file that can’t be viewed on Google Drive or MS Word without conversion. Hopefully, you can also use iCloud.com to change Pages to Word document online and then open it in Google Docs for editing.
