How To Unlock Bootloader On Sony Xperia 5

Sony opens the door of customizations for the Xperia 5 users. Sony Xperia 5 is the latest smartphone from Sony. It comes with better hardware and the latest Android software. If you are not satisfied with its performance or the current version of OS. Then you can change it by a custom ROM and customize your device. You will be able to do all things after unlocking the bootloader on Sony Xperia 5.

Sony devices come with a locked bootloader but you can unlock the bootloader on your device. The smartphone can be easily unlocked. Check our guide, we come with simple and easy steps on how to unlock bootloader on Sony Xperia 5.

What is a bootloader?

A bootloader is a small piece of code that places the operating system (OS) on to your device and it executes when you power on your device.

Pre Requirements:

  • This guide will remove all the data on your phone. So, we highly recommend you to make a complete backup of all your existing data before going ahead.
  • Make sure that the battery level of your phone is about 70% to avoid unexpected shutdowns while unlocking the bootloader.
  • Enable ‘USB Debugging’ and ‘OEM Unlock’ option from setting > Developer Options > Enable Developer Options.

Enable USB Debugging Mode On All Android Version

  • Install the ADB and fastboot driver for windows or ADB and Fastboot for Mac and then restart your device.

How To Unlock Bootloader Of Any Android Using Fastboot Commands

Step 1:

Connect your phone to your computer using its USB data cable.

Step 2:

Navigate to the ADB & fastboot folder. Within that folder, open the command window.

Step 3:

Reboot the phone into the bootloader by issuing the following commands:

adb reboot bootloader

Step 4:

Now type the following command and hit Enter. It will check the fastboot connectivity. If your USB drivers are correctly installed then the device will be connected properly.

fastboot devies

Step 5:

Once in the bootloader, type the following fastboot command to unlock the bootloader.

fastboot oem unlock

Step 6:

That’s All! Restart your Android device and boot your unlocked device by giving this command:

fastboot reboot

Step 7:

To check the bootloader status, that either the bootloader is unlocked successfully or not. Give the following command and it should return “True” on unlock status.

fastboot unlock-info

Step 8:

If you use Mac or Linux machine, use the code: “./fastboot OEM unlock” for iOS and “sudo fastboot OEM unlock” on Linux.
