Apple Releases New Research app & Announces Three Studies

December 3, 2019 By admin_how_OS Leave a Comment

On Thursday Apple announced the release of a new Research app for iPhone and Apple Watch users. The app allows users to take part in medical research studies. Besides, Apple announce three studies that will use data from the Research app.

Research App:

The Research app allows you to learn about the partners and goals of the program, to view any current research programs and enroll – assuming you’re eligible. You select what data to share and what studies to take part in. The Research app builds on the foundation Apple laid out back in 2015 with the launch of ResearchKit. Stanford researchers used to create their landmark 2017 Apple Watch Heart Study. The first three projects include:

  • Apple Women’s Health Study
  • The Apple Heart and Movement Study
  • Apple Hearing Study
The Apple Women’s Health Study:

The project “aims to advance the understanding of menstrual cycles and their relationship to various health conditions, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), osteoporosis, infertility, and the menopausal transition.” Apple has partnered with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of public health and the NIEHS to collect data like menstrual cycle tracking info. A new feature of watchOS 6 will use monthly surveys and other data to analyze women’s reproductive health topics.

The Apple Heart and Movement Study:

The key role in this project is the Women’s Hospital and Brigham and the American Heart Association. The major goal is to study “factors that affect heart health and may cause deterioration in mobility or overall well-being. In an effort to promote healthy movement and level cardiovascular health.”

The Apple Hearing Study:

Apple is examining factors that impact hearing health. The Apple Hearing Health Study is the first of its kind to collect data over time in order to understand how everyday sound exposure can impact hearing. The study data will also be shared with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a contribution toward its Make Listening Safe initiative.

Apple’s support of the medical research community starts with the introduction of ResearchKit and CareKit. As it spreads the scale and pace at which healthcare could be studied and provided.

Conclusion:

That’s all for today…! What do you know about the Research app? Which project do you prefer? Don’t forget to share your views with us in the comment section below!
